We’ve taken inspiration from various traditional roundhouse designs, including Yurts, Celtic Roundhouses, Igloos, African huts and Tipis, added in some modern details to meet our expectations and comfort needs and created the Sheek Shack.
The central wheel is made from a recycled, cut down car wheel and the wood and materials have been sourced from local and sustainable sources where possible. The feel is modern and clean, but also timeless, ancient and a bit magic.
Each Sheek Shack is nestled in its own intimate and private dell in the forest, quietly surrounded by trees, flowers, butterflies and birdsong – one can’t help but be totally captivated. They are named after some of the wild flowers that grow around them – Woodruff and Bluebell.
Fitted with Solar powered lights, phone and laptop charging and a woodburning stove you can be warm and feel totally at home in your snug and cosy nest in the woods. We believe in good quality linen and bedding and natural but modern creature comforts. Wake up well rested to the songs of the blackbirds celebrating the new morning, spend the day on the farm and explore the Golden Valleys of Stroud and then, as the sun starts to drop head back to your woodland nest, a crackling fire, then a warm bed and the gentle hooting of the owls as you drift off to sleep, twinkling stars and crisp moonlight beaming in through the central dome.
Children – They are the future and we do what we can to make them feel welcome and at home. We can provide single mattresses that can be stored under the main bed and pulled out at night and a sheet to go on them if needed. A charge of £10 each is asked for the extra mattresses and linen. You can bring your own airbeds and linen if you choose. We do not provide children’s pillows and duvets.
Cooking – Each Sheek Shack has a small outside Kitchen fitted with a 2 ring gas cooker, pots, pans, and all the necessary hardware to self cater. There is a camp fire and some basic campfire cooking equipment too for more authentic flavours and fireside cooking and Barbeques. There is also a communal kitchen situated in the farm courtyard with a large fridge and freezer where you can keep food and ice packs in. There is also a large dining table, gas cooker with 5 hobs and 2 ovens, microwave oven & toaster. There are coin-operated washing and drying machines here too.
Toilets and Hygiene – each hut has running water and a dry compost toilet close by – ‘a room with a view’. There are showers available in the Farm Courtyard by the barn. We provide towels as part of the Linen Package if that’s what you choose when you book.
Firewood – There is some firewood included in the booking price and if you run out we can provide well seasoned and dry firewood for a small charge if you use more than what we provide. We manage the woodlands carefully for the wildlife and don’t allow guests to cut their own from the forest. We can provide unsplit wood and a small axe if you like splitting your own logs and kindling.
